Old Kardamena

Kardamena hasn't always been a busy tourist destination. Until relatively recently it was a small, sleepy fishing village with the local tomato processing factory, agriculture, pottery and of course, fishing, being the main sources of income.
There is a much older history to Kardamena, dating back to the 3rd century BC.  Here we have photos of the more recent history of the village. Dating mainly from the 1970s and early 80s the changes that have overtaken Kardamena have been, to say the least, profound.
Some of the older photos date from the 1950s and the change from then is even more apparent.

The harbour is completely different now from the wooden jetty that jutted out into the sea and serviced all local needs.
